Stripped by Brenda Rothert

Stripped
By Brenda Rothert
Release Date: May 27, 2013
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary-Romance

Abby Gillis is used to being called a promiscuous, uneducated whore. It’s all in a day’s work when you’re a stripper. Since her job allows her to support her siblings, 24-year-old Abby takes it all off in stride. She’s never had trouble keeping men at arm’s length – until she meets ER physician Chris Reneau, who is sexy, sweet and interested in more than what’s beneath her clothes. As their relationship unfolds, Abby becomes increasingly aware of the desire building in her for the first time, and of her yearning to be wanted by the one man who truly sees all of her.

Commitment-averse Chris finds himself in uncharted territory. He wants Abby, that’s clear, but he can’t accept not having all of her. As the distance between them erodes, he tries to convince Abby to give up stripping for a chance at something real.

As the two of them get closer, Abby realizes that truly baring it all has nothing to do with her body. Chris makes her feel more exposed than she ever has, and she has to grapple with what’s left when her notions about herself and those around her are stripped away, leaving only the naked truth.

J&M's Book Diaries rating:

J&M's review:
First off, we give 3.5 stars for this book. We could have rated it a 4 had the book been written better. There are many parts in the book where the chapter should have ended and a new one start. Parts of the story were all jumbled together & very confusing to follow. Maybe it was the ARC that we received. As a second self-published book by Brenda Rothert, she creates an enjoyable world for her readers. We have read her other book and it was much better written so we are assuming this could have been an unedited version?

With that being said, the story itself was pretty good. Abby is a 24 year old and the oldest of her siblings. She is an assistant by day and a stripper at night. Working two jobs making ends meet and supporting her 3 younger siblings and mother who has an illness.

One evening while Abby is stripping and doing a personal lap dance for a bachelor party. She dances for the Groom-To- Be and the guys offered to buy the "Best Man" Chris who she describes handsome as a "Greek God" a personal dance but he is uninterested. Although he was unaffected by any of the ladies at the club, Abby did feel a connection and sexual energy from him.

Later the next morning Abby is woken up by an alarm. She rushes her mother to the Emergency room where she runs into the E.R. doctor who happens to be the sexy "Greek God" from the strip club.

Both Abby & Chris hit it off from there & even though they claim they only want a "friendship" they have an irresistible attraction. They soon start seeing one another and having some steamy moments and make-out sessions.

When they eventually talk about a real relationship Chris has a problem with Abby's continue work as a stripper but he doesn't force her to choose between them or her job. Chris has his issues as well but he is so understanding, a caring guy and rushing to Abby's side when she needs help. Chris stands up for her no matter the situation. They have a pretty sweet relationship in the book that you wouldn't expect a doctor and stripper to have.

We liked how Abby is an independent person, she's hard-working, and very maternal and mature for taking care of her younger sister's and her mother.

The book and the plot of the story was good, it was definitely a page-turning read. The ending was the icing on the cake for us. It was super cute!
